Mano was known for having some of the best assets in the worst countries. The country risk, however, has all but disappeared. Mano has seen success after signing up to a number of joint ventures with major mining companies including BHP Billiton and Golden Star in Sierra Leone and Trans Hex in Liberia. Mano also found the only known kimberlites in Liberia.
   
alexander mining: copper, gold and silver exploration, south america
Alexander Mining came to the market earlier this year with a formidable board and equally formidable bank balance of over £20m. The company has four main licences in Argentina and Peru, the most important of these, for the moment, is the Leon Copper licence in northern Argentina.
   
new millennium resources: diamond exploration, west africa & greenland
AIM-listed New Millennium Resources is concentrating its efforts on diamond exploration and mining in Angola. Although Angola can be a difficult country to work in, the company has persevered and is close to concluding a deal which will see its licence area grow quite substantially.
   
beowulf mining: copper and gold exploration, sweden
AIM-listed Beowulf Gold is exploring for copper and gold in northern Sweden where there is no mining royalty and excellent infrastructure. The company has announced drill ready exploration targets and encouraging results in Northern Sweden which are attracting the attentions of the majors. In recent announcements, the company has indicated concentrations of uranium in its drill cores; samples have been despatched for assay and investors eagerly await these results.
   
grove energy: oil and gas exploration and production, europe
AIM and TSX-V listed Grove Energy is developing a portfolio of oil and gas exploration and production assets in Europe focusing on Italy, Romania, Slovenia and the North Sea. Grove operates in areas which are proven hydrocarbon producers, close to existing infrastructure and net importers of hydrocarbons.

Ofex listed All Star Minerals is developing a thorium based portfolio with interests in Northern Australia. All Star aims to become the global leader in the exploration, development and production of select thorium related properties in politically stable countries worldwide.
   
tanzania gold: gold exploration, tanzania
AIM listed gold exploration in Tanzania, with projects in a relatively highly prospective and under-explored areas. Tanzania Gold have recently signed off for drilling the Mkurumu gold project in eastern Tanzania.
   
pubs 'n' bars: pub operator and property investment, UK
AIM-listed Pubs 'n' Bars, until recently, was focused on properties within the M25 motorway. That all changed last year when the company entered into a joint venture with the Bank of Scotland to run 32 pubs previously owned by Balaclava Pub Company which had gone into receivership. Pubs 'n' Bars continues to outperform its larger peers in both sales and profits, despite the toughest trading in recent times across the sector.
   
keyworld investments: leisure property investment, global
AIM listed property investment company, Keyworld Investments have a novel approach to investing in property. To fund acquisitions, it offers a bond to the public for a minimum purchase price of £10,000 which is repaid as a dividend on the bond known as "holiday points". For a £10,000 investment, the bond holder could receive free holiday accommodation around the globe for a month; the dividend is also tax free making it even more attractive. After a thirty year period, the original investment is repaid, though the holder could have received holiday accommodation worth over £100,000.
   
griffin mining: zinc & gold mining, china
Griffin Mining has built its first mine in China and expects to be in production of zinc in the very near future having successfully raised just under £10m early last year. The zinc mine being constructed, north of Beijing, is the result of years of hard work by Griffin which, coincidentally, was the first western company to receive a mining licence in China under its own merit.
   
carpathian gold: gold exploration, romania
TSX-V listed Carpathian Gold raised around £2m in London last year for its operations within the Carpathian Arc region of Romania. Carpathian Gold has mineral properties situated in Romania and Hungary and covering 1,080sq km.
